There are a good number of us who spend the entire season of singleness in mourning or waiting or wishing it away instead of actually living. However, if there’s one thing we’re passionate about in the SingleRoots community, it is not sitting around and frivolously wasting this time we’ve been given.
Part of thriving is looking at every aspect of our lives with gratitude—and yes, that even includes our singleness. So in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, we wanted to pause for a moment and praise the Lord for all He has done for us, but especially for this period in our lives. May we continue to faithfully run the race set before us, whether we are single or married.
“I’m thankful that I’m single because God is using it to grow me. Just like anything else that’s painful, it’s a bittersweet thankfulness–one that is hard yet good. And even though I want to say wholeheartedly that I am thankful and not sound the least bit pained by it, that’s not true–at least not for right now. Regardless, though, I am grateful for any difficult season that is used to help me see and desire Him more clearly.” [John]
“I am thankful that I am single because God has used the pain of it—the lonely times, the sad times, the feelings of frustration and of being passed over to refine me—to get me to address some serious flaws in my character and to continually evaluate my values and priorities to see if they line up with HIS priorities. I am thankful for His grace in this season and for His gift of a new heart so that I can approach significant relationships with an attitude of service, love, and grace. I am thankful for this season of singleness with Jesus that grows deeper and sweeter each day.” [Brooke Battles]
“I’m thankful for the community of friends God provided me with this year. Together we are a family since many of us will be celebrating the holidays—including Thanksgiving—without our immediate/extended families. God is rich in His love for His children and always provides those around me that He knows I need!” [Allison Stroud]
“I am thankful for the freedom to set my own agenda (within limits).
I am thankful for the time to focus on Christ.
I am thankful for the quiet in my home after a full day of work (most of the time).” [Jeff Pate]
“I’m thankful that I’m single because God has used it to show me that He is enough for me. The more I lean into Him during the difficult parts of my singleness, the more He shows me that even if I were married, He still fulfills my every need. ” [Liesl Bennett]
“I’m thankful for my singleness because it has opened my eyes to the knowledge that the desires of my heart—the essence of who I am and who I long to be—do not have to wait to be fulfilled in marriage and a family. These desires and longings are being fulfilled now as I’m growing closer to Christ, ‘doing life’ with the community around me, serving the people He places in my path, nurturing the children of my heart, and living a life of purpose.” [Carrie Beth Davis]
“…in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” [1 Thessalonians 5:18]
