Dear Adam,
Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you what you’re doing wrong today. We’ll save that for another week.
We’ve talked a few times recently about men taking initiative and pursuing women. It’s a problem for some men, to be sure. But there are many great guys out there who are getting everything right. Because signals can easily get crossed, sometimes in the single world we fail to tell a member of the opposite sex how much we appreciate, not only their efforts, but who they are.
So if I may, I’d like to speak a word to the guys on behalf of the ladies…
Thank you for all of the times you moved us from apartment to apartment to apartment and for all of the times you’ll move us in the future. You never complain, even when we repay you with paltry pizza dinners.
Thank you for all of the times you’ve pumped our gas at the gas station, jumped our car batteries off, fixed our washing machine, or flipped burgers on the grill.
Thank you for always waiting until all of the ladies in the singles group are seated before taking your seat at the Sunday lunch table, for walking on the side closest to the cars when we walk down the street, and for initiating prayer for the team leaving on a mission trip.
Thank you for paying for our meal occasionally, for no other reason than you are just a generous person.
Thank you for loading and unloading the car, waiting to make sure we drive out of the parking lot before you leave it, and for the 401k advice when we can’t figure out what to do.
Thank you for all of the preparation you do when leading a Bible study, for dressing up as a clown for a children’s outreach event, and for the importance you place on male accountability in your personal life.
For all the times you’ve laughed with and at us without making us feel stupid and the times you’ve told us we were far too good for that bad date we just went on, we thank you.
For every time you see a need at work, church, or in your neighborhood and stop to meet it,
for the way you treat your mother, grandmother, and all ladies you come in contact with,
for being an example of a servant leader and setting the bar high for other guys,
We are inordinately grateful.
Consider this your proper side hug of appreciation.
Now back to our regularly-scheduled Sunday sarcasm…
