Have you done some Big Church dating? And, no, we don’t mean going on a date to “Big Church.” (You know someone grew up in the church when “big church” means the “worship service.”)
Sadly, “Big Church dating” doesn’t have anything to do with the church at all. It is an online dating site. Similar to Christian Mingle, BigChurch.com is owned by a parent company that markets towards many different dating niches, Jewish Friend Finder, Senior Friend Finder, Korean Friend Finder, etc. So they are not specifically a Christian business, but they do target Christians with their online dating site, BigChurch.com. As we’ve mentioned in our post about “Who Owns Christian Mingle?” we don’t have a problem with a company who targets Christians and delivers what they advertise.
But unlike Christian Mingle, we cannot even half-heartedly recommend BigChurch.com as a suitable online dating site because their parent company, FriendFinder Networks is owned by Penthouse Media Group. Yes, THAT Penthouse.
Of course, you have to do a little digging to find this information out. Go to the BigChurch.com site, scroll down to the fine print at the bottom, click on “Corporate, click on “About Us,” and then click on “History.” Initially, when you look at the online dating sites within the FriendFinder Network, the ones that are advertised are among the ones we listed above. Those mainly have to do with differing race and ethnicities. But if you dig a little deeper, you find there are many other sites within their network that are more sexual in nature.
If you’ve read SingleRoots for any period of time, you know we do not take pornography and its devastating effects on our culture lightly. So we will not recommend a site that is tied to the porn industry in any way. It would be easy to miss these important details. That’s why we do our best to find out as much information as possible about online dating sites that might be of interest to Christian singles. We realize there is so much information on the internet that people might accidentally overlook something like Big Church dating parent company details.
Furthermore, in doing our research on BigChurch.com, we also realized that PerfectMatch.com is also owned by the same company, so we have since revised our reviews on that site. PerfectMatch was among some of the first sites we ever reviewed, and we did not know about the parent company connections at the time.
Suffice it to say, we don’t recommend “Big Church dating” to any Christian single. No matter what the site is like, how many members it boasts, or whatever other promises it makes, your money is better spent elsewhere.
